My beloved husband Ian lost his life to a blood cancer. We had every hope of him finding a donor match through Anthony Nolan. However he lost his battle at a very early stage. Ian would have had no problem with finding a matching donor or two with his profile of Northern European. Many people from ethnic groups have a much tougher time finding a match because the donor register is much smaller. I want to help change that by raising awareness, de-stigmatising stem cell donation and giving everyone a fighting chance of beating this rotten cancer. Please help me - even the smallest donation may help to save a life.
Every day, Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. We do this by matching incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells to people who desperately need a lifesaving transplant. We also carry out cutting edge scientific research, fund specialist post-transplant nurses and support patients and their families through the transplant process and beyond. We won’t stop until we save the lives of everyone who needs a stem cell transplant. Every penny you donate brings us closer to that day.
If you didn't get a chance to support me when I did the Dubrovnik Triathlon last October 2023, here is your chance to inspire me to make the journey from one island to another. I am swimming the Nevis to St Kitts Cross-Channel Event on 6 April 2024. It's going to be a challenging 4.1km or 2.5 miles in the sea with turtles and fish and other swimmers for company. I'll be visualising Ian (who hated swimming), the finish line and few more pennies going to the charity to help someone make it across their finishing line of their transplant journey.
Thank you!
